Week 32 is a big development leap. Your baby is practising breathing motions, gaining a layer of fat that will smooth out those wrinkles, and the bones are hardening — with the exception of the skull, which stays soft to squeeze through the birth canal.

Frequently asked questions
Is my baby head-down yet?
Only 60 percent of babies are head-down at 32 weeks. Most turn by 36 weeks. Talk to your provider about spinning-baby exercises if positioning is a concern.
What if I go into labour at 32 weeks?
Babies born at 32 weeks have very high survival rates but usually need a short NICU stay for breathing support. Call your provider immediately if you have regular contractions, water breaking, or bleeding.
Is it safe to have sex at 32 weeks?
In a low-risk pregnancy, yes. Comfortable positions and lubrication help. Stop if you have any bleeding, contractions, or your water breaks.
When to call your provider
Most weeks of pregnancy pass without alarm, but a small set of symptoms always deserves urgent attention. Call your doctor or head to the nearest maternity emergency room straight away for any of the following:
- Heavy, bright-red vaginal bleeding or the passage of clots
- Severe headache with visual changes, upper-abdominal pain, or sudden facial swelling
- Any leaking of fluid before 37 weeks or a sudden gush of fluid at any week
- A clear drop in your baby’s usual pattern of kicks, or fewer than 10 movements in two hours during their active window
- Fever above 38 °C, painful urination, or one-sided calf swelling
Where week 32 sits in the third trimester
The third trimester begins at week 28 and ends at birth. Baby gains most of their weight now, senses sharpen, and your body prepares for labour with practice contractions and hormonal shifts. Sleep gets trickier and appointments become weekly by the end. Week 32 is one step closer to meeting your baby.
